Star Energy will play a prominent role at the REA UK Geothermal Conference 2026, which takes place on Tuesday 13 October at The Minster Building, London.
Titled ‘Galvanising Geothermal: Delivering Demand’, the event is expected to bring together more than 150 delegates from across the geothermal and wider energy sectors, including developers, investors, policymakers, technology providers, local authorities and major energy users. The conference will examine what is required to increase geothermal deployment across the UK and the opportunities for geothermal energy within heat networks, power generation, digital infrastructure, agriculture, cooling and industry.
Tony Bryan, Development Director at Star Energy and Chair of the REA Geothermal Energy Forum, will give one of the conference’s opening addresses. Star Energy Chief Executive Ross Glover is also expected to participate in the event.
Key policymakers from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and senior cross-party MPs are also expected to take part, bringing government, industry and major energy users together to discuss the future of UK geothermal energy.
Moving UK geothermal from potential to delivery
Geothermal energy provides a locally sourced and reliable form of energy that can operate throughout the year. The UK also has significant expertise in subsurface engineering, drilling and energy infrastructure that could support the growth of a domestic geothermal sector. The conference will focus on the practical steps required to increase deployment and build demand for geothermal energy.
Sessions will examine current and future demand, regional heating and energy policy, international experience of scaling geothermal deployment, UK skills, investment and the financial mechanisms required to support new projects.
One session will focus specifically on large energy users such as NHS organisations and airports, examining how major institutional heat consumers can help create the long-term demand needed to support geothermal investment.
This is particularly relevant to Star Energy’s geothermal project pipeline which includes a number of NHS sites across the UK.
Financing the next generation of geothermal projects
The closing conference session will consider one of the most important issues facing the sector: how geothermal infrastructure can be financed at scale. Discussion will cover the Green Heat Network Fund, heat purchase agreements, capital requirements and the role that national and local government can play in supporting investment.
The conference follows the successful ‘Geothermal in the UK: What’s Next?’ event held in 2025. Following the integration of the Geothermal Energy Association into the REA, the 2026 conference will bring together a wider group of organisations with an interest in establishing geothermal as a significant part of the UK’s future energy mix.
