We’re delighted to announce that Star Energy will be featured in the Rock Stars of UK Geothermal Energy Startup Showcase at the Future of Geothermal in the UK launch event on Feb 5 in London. As a company committed to scaling up geothermal energy here in the UK, we’re excited to be part of this pivotal moment for the sector.
We will be hosting a stand at the event, engaging directly with fellow developers, policymakers, academic institutions and technical experts, all working together to help shape the future of geothermal in the UK and beyond. This is a major opportunity for us to contribute to the wider conversation and share insight from our growing portfolio of UK geothermal projects.
The event marks the official launch of a major UK-focused study led by Project InnerSpace, an international initiative dedicated to enabling geothermal energy development anywhere in the world. The study itself is a significant achievement: a multidisciplinary, cross-collaborative piece of work, developed by twenty authors across more than ten UK institutions. It provides a clear and ambitious roadmap for integrating geothermal into the country’s energy system—one that can help reduce bills, lower emissions and generate thousands of skilled jobs across the country.
Project InnerSpace, directed by Jamie Beard, is leading a global effort to accelerate geothermal exploration and development. Backed by Schmidt Futures, a philanthropic initiative founded by Eric and Wendy Schmidt, the programme is designed to bring together stakeholders from oil and gas, start-ups, academic research, and government to drive forward the innovation needed to unlock geothermal at scale.
Their approach combines international deployment with foundational research studies—focused on breaking down the main barriers to widespread geothermal uptake. These include improving subsurface characterisation to reduce pre-project risk and unlocking funding for first-of-a-kind projects, which traditional mechanisms often struggle to support.
At Star Energy, we fully support this direction. As one of the few UK developers actively progressing large-scale geothermal heat projects—such as our work with Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust and in Southampton with Bring Energy and the University of Southampton — we understand the need for collaborative action, policy support and technical innovation.
